I think pregnant women taking showers is like a car wash for baby.
As I was showering this morning, I was pondering the potential thoughts of my not-yet-here Rhett and thinking about his point-of-view at that very moment. He often moves around when I’m in the shower and I think it is because he finds the car wash as fun as his mommy does. I mean, you should be getting wet, but you’re not! It’s the most fun thing to do on a Thursday afternoon.
I’ve started playing a game these last few days. It’s called the “will I wear this again before the baby gets here” game. It’s kind of a fun thing to think about. I am putting this article of clothing into the hamper and I don’t know if I will wear it again. Maybe ever. It is mainly with work attire that I have borrowed from friends since I will be returning the items and will probably not be in the area when I am pregnant again. I’m also trying to figure out what my going home outfit is going to be. I need to decide and pack it so that it is clean whenever we go to the hospital. I want to be cute, yet comfortable. Stylish, yet not trying too hard. I think I have found a good common ground. But we’ll see.
It’s a very weird feeling in these “it could happen any time” days. It’s like you’ve got this Jack in the Box and you keep winding and winding and winding…. You know it is going to go off and scare the crap out of you but there is nothing you can do to prepare yourself for it. So, every evening, the conversation goes like this “we could go (fill in the blank) or we could go into labor”. It’s really weird and I don’t think I am comfortable yet with the balance between being too prepared and not prepared enough. Sometimes I feel like I have too many ducks already in a row and I should slow down because he could be a week late. Then other days I am about to cry because I think he could be here in 12 hours and I have so much left to do.
With the help of my wonderful husband I have gotten a lot of my checklist completed. One of the big things was getting my car cleaned and fixed up with some new brakes. The cleaning wasn’t bad. We went to our local Shell gas station that does a discount on gas and the car wash on Thursdays. With a full tank we pulled over to the vacuum and showed the car who’s boss. While Andy wielded the vacuum, I went through the whole car with Clorox wipes. It is a truly beautiful site. We, of course, saved the best for last and took the car through the car wash to end the palooza of cleaning. AND it was awesome as always. With one new tire, new breaks, and a clean interior AND exterior, the car is now worthy of Baby Rhett.
The nesting instinct makes you do weird things and you cannot explain why you feel the need to do things you do but you just know you have to do it. Like putting all your decorative pillows in place on your bed or Clorox wiping the inside of your washing machine lid or getting on your hands and knees to wipe down your floorboards. For a select few, these actions are very normal. For most of humanity, these are things you do when you have company coming or you realized you haven’t done it in 5 years. I can’t tell you how weird it is to me that dust bothers me so much or how an unfolded blanket just makes me so uneasy. I am becoming someone I don’t even recognize all because of this nesting business. I am sure I will go back to normal eventually…. Or will I….? Dun dun dun.
For a status check, I am a little over 40 pounds gained for this pregnancy. Blood pressure is good. Rhett’s heartbeat is strong. Everything is still looking great. I get noticeable contractions (or what I assume are contractions) about once a day and it’s normally just a few and they don’t do anything but make me take a deep breath. We’ll keep everyone posted. I am still really hoping for labor on Labor day… It would just be perfect.
I am adding two new polls. One for weight and one for the day he will arrive. Take your best guesses. Andy and I both were around 7 pounds and some odd ounces when we were born (however I quickly grew into the loveable stay-puff as seen in my previous post). Good luck!
