I didn’t have a baby today but I did have Cold Stone.
Today was an ok day but I am starting to feel a little achey and I think it is a cold bug that has been going through the office. I can feel it coming and I really hope it is short lived. A cold with labor will make the process a wee bit difficult. Please pray that all my vitamins will kick this thing in the butt soon. With all the herbs and vitamins I’m taking you would think it would have been harder to pick up this gunk but oh well. The vitamins must be distracted with keeping the baby healthy and they let this little bug slip in.
I went to the doctor today and nothing is new. Again. Keeping the same weight, no change in the cervix, and he hasn’t dropped. Apparently I have the best uterus ever and Rhett doesn’t want to leave. There must be a big screen t.v. and a fridge of breast milk in there… I’ve upped the crazy remedies to get things moving. I’m starting to feel less like a hippie and more like a voodoo witch doctor. I’m tempted to get a black cauldron to carry all my remedies around in. Ok, it’s not that bad. But it does take me about 5-10 minutes to get through my medicine drill. And my purse sounds like one giant maraca.
If Rhett is not here over the weekend I will go to the doctor on Monday or Tuesday for a non-stress test to make sure he’s ok hanging out in there for a few more days. I’ll go twice a week next week and who knows how often if he is still not here by next weekend. Baby Rhett will be born no later than September 25th so it’s nice to know there is a definite time that I will get to see him. We are certainly hoping he comes before then to avoid any inductions or a c-section.
Now, please don’t misinterpret my perceived anxiousness. I am happy for Rhett to stay in longer and I have not hit the “get it out of me” phase at all. I have been so blessed this whole pregnancy (we’ll just pretend the first trimester NEVER happened) so a few more days feeling him inside kicking and hiccupping is no problem. I just want to make sure everything is progressing naturally and normally. And it’s hard at this stage for me to be relaxed because I want to hear things like you are 50% effaced and progressing nicely. Or he is dropped and in a great position. The frustrating thing about pregnancy is that it is different for everybody and hardly predictable in these last few days. Your baby can drop and you’ll still wait 3 weeks or more or he can drop 10 hours before he is born. You can be at 2cm dilated for days or go from 1-8cm in a matter of hours. All of the precursors can happen gradually over time or they can happen one right after the other and you could have a baby in your arms that night. How in the world are you supposed to predict your days?
Oh, what was that God? Yet another way you remind us to live by faith and rely on your timing?
I’m trying to remind myself of the value of God’s timing and the lessons that can be learned from pregnancy. Sometimes I just want to write my name in front of some of the advice and commands found in the Bible. For example, I would make Phillipians 4:6 start like this: “Hey Erica, Do not be anxious about anything” or Psalm 37:7 “Erica, be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently (I mean it, Erica) for Him to act.”
So, I’ll be working on that whole patience thing.
Let me take a moment to elaborate on my first sentence of this post. Tonight I was treated to a casual dinner out with friends and it was so nice to catch up. It involved Greek pizza from ZPizza and it was amazing. Greek salad (a.k.a olives, olives, and more olives) on a pizza is the best thing ever. We finished with some Cold Stone ice cream and that was a special treat. One of our friends works there and she made me the most delicious banana nut caramel mix! She has already spoiled Rhett with some super cute theatre baby stuff and then she out did herself with the dessert tonight. I could feel the love in every bite!
I’m ready for everyone to meet Rhett. Hopefully that is soon but if it isn’t I am going to be fine. I will smile and be thankful for the object lesson on patience.
You are awesome. Hang in there!
