I have had my sweet baby here for 3 weeks but it feels like I’ve known him for a lot longer. It is amazing how we can feel so close to someone who just showed up. I mean who else could take over your house, keep you up at night, and poop all the time and get you to wipe it up and make you happy about doing all of that? It’s like a cute baby spell. He’s so cute that it makes being up from 2-7am a joy. Well, joy might not be the best word for it but I’m not crying about it that’s for sure.
A lot of people have asked me if this feels so weird to be a mommy now and I can honestly say that it’s not that weird for me. This is something I have wanted for a long time and I have always pictured myself having kids. Andy and I always knew we would try to have a big family so, this just feels right and very normal. Rhett fits right in. It has been interesting getting used to the different schedule but I am slowly getting used to it and finding a rhythm. He is eating about every 3 hours and he will go almost 4 hours at night. I’m still trying to find the balance between being too lazy and being too active. I am definitely a “Check List” type person and I am constantly making lists, either in my head or on paper, of things that need to be done. A day that only gets one thing checked off is just a bad day, even if I needed the rest, it still feels like a bad day because I was so unproductive. So, needless to say, Rhett has made me have to deal with this side of my personality. Who knew this cute baby would also serve as Obsessive Compulsive therapy?
So, instead of vacuuming or going to the grocery store, often times I find myself sitting on the couch catching up on daytime t.v. Mainly, The Price is Right and assorted shows on HGTV. I tried watching a few baby shows on TLC early on but I realized it was a little too close to home... One thing I have learned is that according to the commercials I see all day, my demographic is either over 65 years old OR a victim of mesothelioma. Awesome. If I see one more denture commercial or personal injury ad I might go crazy. Although, those hover round chairs do look handy. And I could certainly make use of the free grabber that comes with the chair. It would come in handy while I am breastfeeding and the tv remote or water bottle is out of reach. If you see me in orthopedic shoes and drinking ensure, please do something.
We have had a few field trips in these past 3 weeks and Rhett has done so well. We have had a few doctor’s visits and all of those have gone SO well. Last week he went for his 2 week check up and he was up to 7 lbs 14oz. 2oz away from 8 lbs. What a big boy! We also took a big trip out to Lynchburg last weekend. He did so well with the trip and it was great for a lot of family to meet him. He went to church for the first time at Brentwood Church and Cousin Jon put him right to sleep… Rhett says “Nothing personal, Jon!”
He also got to visit Grace Bible for the first time this past Sunday. He was so good again! It is amazing to me how easy he is during the day. He cries when he is hungry and every now and then during a diaper change. I think he cries the most at night because he is laid on his back and he hardly spends time on his back during the day.
Ok, Rhett is asleep so time for a shower! A shower two days in a row? Is this what heaven is like?
I love hearing about how things are going with the sweet little man! Can't wait to see and talk to you. We must do it soon!
ReplyDeleteSo glad it is all going so well!!! What a blessing little Rhett is already!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a blast! - even if sleep is something found in fairy tales :)
