New Year, New Post

As I sit here looking at a sleeping baby, with a hot cup of Mexican hot chocolate in my hands, and a new haircut I love, I have the sudden urge to post to this blog. I want to keep it up because I really enjoy being able to go back and read my thoughts from months past and I sincerely hope that friends read this and are given an accurate and uplifting view into pregnancy and now mommyhood. To be clear, this is not technically a New Year’s Resolution for me to blog more (that way I won’t be considered a quitter if the baby laundry keeps me from posting until the next New Year).

So, Happy New Year to Rhett. He rang in the new year downing a 5 oz cocktail of breast milk and rice cereal. This boy knows how to party. He weighs in around 15.5 lbs but we will get his official weight at his 4 month check-up towards the end of the week. But no one needs to weigh this boy to see he’s gaining weight and eating healthy. You see it all over his cheeks, both sets. We are so in love with our little chunk-a-lunk. He’s well into his 3-6 months clothes and is wearing some 9 month attire. I’d still like to lose about 10-15 pounds to get back to pre-pregnancy weight so I am secretly racing Rhett to see if I can lose the 10 before he gains the 10. And it’s going to be a tight race. Have you seen this kid?

It’s been an amazing experience getting to know this little man. He is so sweet and gentle and he gets an A+ for snuggling (a few grandmas will back me up on that). I think smiling is honestly his favorite but pooping comes in as a close second. He started laughing a few weeks ago and it instantly makes any day entirely better. What’s funny is that he really only laughs at two things: Mommy tickling his tummy and Daddy making this funny Wookie-esque sound. If either one tries the other’s technique, he doesn’t laugh. It’s like he knows we would probably get competitive so he gives us each our own special thing that the other can’t replicate. What a good son. But I’d like to see him find a way to say mama and dada for the first time at the same time. Then I’ll be really impressed.

He’s had a little bit of a cough the last few days so his humidifier has been following him around the house. It’s a really wonderful thing given to us by our friend, Chris Bookless, and it creates this cloud around him. I think he looks like this magician baby and I keep wanting to play theme music for him as he makes his pacifier disappear. He’s got special fx fog and lighting from his bouncy seat… all he needs is some theme music, a la Gob Bluth.

That’s about all I can fit in this post as the man of the hour is waking up. And he is way cuter than this computer screen. I’ll end by mentioning my haircut again. I love it. I wanted to get my haircut but I wanted to avoid the stereotypical ‘mom chop’ so I waited 4 months to make myself feel better about it. At the salon, the lady had finished the main cut but I told her it looked a little too poofy for my taste. She responded by saying “yeah, let’s take the ‘soccer mom’ out of it”. Amen. Keep the poofy hair, high waisted jeans, and minivans far, far away. But I have to admit that I have succumb to watching the Today Show with Hoda and Kathie Lee every morning. Nobody’s perfect.
