We were able to take a fun weekend trip to Lynchburg and the three of us had a great time. Blueberry only needed one bathroom stop on the way there, which is what we normally do anyway. No sickness, just a nice drive. I was so thankful. We were able to see lots of wonderful people and Blueberry got a lot of hello’s. The most elaborate baby welcome came from my friend Sarah, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think she was a linebacker trying to take me out. Needless to say, the enthusiasm meant a lot to both me and Blueberry.
I made a huge culinary discovery while on my trip. I am so incredibly excited about this; I can barely stand it. I AM A PROUD LOVER OF SUSHI! Now, before you call my doctor, my mother, or God, I only had veggie sushi rolls and ones with crab in it so Blueberry is all safe. I really love food and I am willing to try any dish at least once. Sushi has always been the one thing I will not eat. I have tried it a few times but I have never liked it even though I’ve wanted to. I don’t like saying that there is something I won’t eat; kinda like a pride thing I guess. Shame on me. So, we went to my favorite China restaurant in Lynchburg (which is a buffet I might add AND I ate my fair share while there thank you very much) and they have a small sushi bar. I decided to give it a try again. I got a crab roll and a veggie roll. The crab roll was ok but the veggie roll was DELICIOUS. It had carrots and avocado. My mouth is watering right now. I never liked sushi before because it always seemed like I was eating straight from the ocean. Salt, grit, and all. Well, pregnant Erica can’t get enough salt so these were perfect. The soy sauce was like the icing on the cake. Not only was I thoroughly enjoying the taste in my mouth, I felt like Rocky atop the library steps overcoming my one culinary Achilles’ heel. Go Erica, It’s your birthday! This is really my only significant change in taste for this pregnancy and I think it is pretty cool. I hope to enjoy it a few more times before I go back to hating it.
I think I may be coming down with a cold. My head has been throbbing and my anti-nausea medicine isn’t able to keep me from throwing up. I think the drainage is over powering the medicine. Sorry to be sharing so much. Anyway, I took the day off to just sleep and take baths since I feel like my head and feet are made of sandbags. I managed to get out of bed and made it to the couch before falling asleep again for another few hours. While awake, I enjoyed a bowl of cereal and then a bowl of spaghettio’s later on. I also decided to turn on the t.v. while eating. Hmm, what’s on? Oh, A Baby Story! Great!
Not great.
That show is fun to watch unless you are pregnant. It’s like wanting to watch a bunch of wisdom teeth surgeries with yours scheduled next month. Why would you do that?! I don’t know but I watched about 3 episodes. When you watch those shows while pregnant it is impossible to separate yourself from the stories being told. You are constantly imagining yourself going through everything they do. I went through labor three times today and I am exhausted. I am just glad I have a 9-5 job that keeps me out of the house for daytime TLC programming. My psyche wouldn’t be able to handle it.
We are into our 11th week of the pregnancy and things are moving along nicely. Blueberry is the size of a fig for this week. It is an especially sentimental week since figs are kind of a family fruit. Ok, that sounds weird but it is true. My Grandpa and Grandma have always had fig trees in their yard and we all grew up eating figs all the time. Fresh off the tree, dried, or my personal favorite, frozen. So, it feels like baby is already part of the family. And if you’ve never had a fig, you’re missing out.
This weekend, we are heading down to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break. Baby will be enjoying Mongolian barbeque, Little Pigs pulled-pork bbq, and deviled crab. When not eating, we will be going for walks on the beach, winning some stuffed animals at the arcade on baseball machines, and shopping at the outlet mall. It will be a wonderful trip for all three of us.
Yay! Another sushi lover! I must take you to my favorite spot - or pick it up and bring it to you. American Rolls, prego approved, are a must!
