After the initial shock and excitement of baby news faded, we found ourselves sitting on the couch looking around at our wonderful apartment thinking where in the world is a baby going to go? This set up is perfect for the two of us because we have just the right amount of space for us and for family who visits often. It really works well. Add baby to the mix and I am not exactly sure how to move things around. First of all, I am not a spatial person. I’m really handicapped when it comes to that stuff. I’m the kind of person who looks at 2 dozen cookies and grabs a sandwich bag to put them away. My disorder shows itself must unruly while packing. Ask Andy. It’s really embarrassing so I don’t want to talk about it any more. As you can imagine, the idea of moving furniture and things around to make more space makes me nervous so Andy has taken over that project. I will just take a valium and a bath.
My initial thought was to use our very spacious walk-in closet as the mini-baby room. We keep the door open all the time and it functions more like an alcove in the room versus a closet. I liked this idea until I realized my child will be living in a closet. I don’t want my child growing up with a Cinderella complex. “Hey, quiet in there. And fold the clothes.” “Just be glad we didn’t put you on the porch”. You can see where my train of thought went. I think we have decided that we will put the crib in the 2nd bedroom and move our desk into our room. But that’s Andy’s department so I will stop talking about it.
In other news, I made my first appointment with the Midwife center. March 8th will be my 12 week appointment but I will be 13 weeks at the time. Oh well. I’m on vacation for week 12 so I’m going the Monday I get back. I feel really good about this decision. The only thing I’m stressed about is the break up with my other doctor. As much as I want to just call and say ‘this just isn’t working out’ I can’t because I need my records from them so I can take them with me to my first appointment with the new place. This is awful. It’s like wanting to end a relationship with someone but you can’t because there is a bunch of your stuff that they have. You try and find ways to inconspicuously take things back one at a time until everything is back from enemy lines and then call it off. That would be great but I don’t think there is any casual way to request a record of your urine samples. I just need to bite the bullet and get it over with. “It’s not you, it’s me (but it’s really you)”.
My body has continued filling out. I finally got a scale today so that I can keep track. Our other one died on us and said we were about 10 pounds heavier than we were. Great for Andy, not for me. I’m looking forward to tracking progress. My “top half” has been filling out as well. I’m down to about two bras that fit now, which is awesome because those were my optimistic bras. I purchased them with the whole “If you build it, they will come” mentality and it worked. I had to get pregnant for it to work but that is beside the point.
My days have been pretty good lately. We are taking a trip to Lynchburg this weekend so this will be my first trip with the morning sickness/nausea medicine. I think I will be fine. I’m doing so much better with the medicine and I am liking the pattern I am in now. When your day doesn’t involve hugging a toilet, how can it not be an amazing day?
