Fun in the Sun, Pregnant style

Here’s my moto for the summer. If your stomach is getting bigger, wear a bigger hat.

Seriously, it is the perfect solution. It balances the extra weight you are carrying in your mid (and a little lower than mid) section. Plus, you feel super glamorous even when your silhouette isn’t exactly screaming Marylyn Monroe anymore. I love it.

I have made it out to the beach a few times already this summer and it is so nice to get out in the sun. It just feels good and there is nothing quite as depressing as being pale and huge. Tan and huge, I can deal with. I’ve had to make a few accommodations while out there but all in all it’s not much different. I can’t lay flat on my back too long because my hips get all locked up when laying on the flat hard sand and I have to bring a ton of water bottles. Other than that, our trips look pretty much like they did before the pregnancy. The water is still pretty cool here so it is really refreshing and watching dolphins roll by has to be one of the most relaxing things. I like to say that they are saying hi to Baby and welcoming him to the beach.

We’ve also spent some time in pools and I am a big fan. All the strain my joints feel is completely gone in the water. I can relax my abs and I feel no pressure from the baby at all. I can also get a lot of laps in and never feel it in my knees or hips. Just in my muscles. (I feel like that was almost a pick-up line). At my parent’s house I spent a lot of time in this one oval float that has blow-up tubing around the edge and mesh in the middle. I was able to lay on my stomach and just float. It was bliss. I really miss sleeping on my stomach so this was a pleasant treat. I wish I could spend all day in a pool on that float. That would be really awesome. I pause right now to reflect on how wonderful that felt.

Baby boy really loves to move around and he is so much fun to watch. It’s like I have my own little circus I carry around with me everywhere I go. I’m used to it enough that it doesn’t bother me as much and I can keep on going with my everyday tasks. It’s only every now and then that a kick will make me stop mid-sentence. I like this little guy a lot and I can’t wait to meet him. I think Andy might even be more excited than I am. It makes me happy.

To wrap up, we go for our 28 week appointment on Thursday and I am doing my glucose testing. I get to down this thing and then go get pricked.

I wish they made a slurpee version of this test. I think I’d do much better if it was a slurpee. After this appointment we will start going every two weeks until the 36th week and then we go once a week for the last 4 weeks until my due date. I wish our favorite diner had a frequent flyer card. We’ll be visiting a lot between now and September. I hope I can still fit into the booth by the end of this pregnancy.
