My hips have given me their two weeks notice which is a problem since I’ve got 6 weeks and some change to go. For some reason, the last week has been really hard on my hips. They just ache all day. Which has given me the ever so flattering pregnant waddle. I try my best to mask it until no one is looking but I think it still sneaks out every now and then. I kept a heating pad on my hips last night as I fell asleep and I think that helped some. The good news is that I don’t have much longer to go.
I did the most pregnant lady thing today and I’m not ashamed (clearly; since I am sharing it on this blog). I went grocery shopping tonight and one of the things Andy requested was bread and butter pickles for his sandwiches. So, I go down the aisle of pickles and I get to the big green section. I pick up the bread and butter pickles and turn to leave and what happens to catch my eye? Those cute little petite dill pickles. And is that a 2 for $4 sign I see before me? Why yes it is! Somehow a jar of petite dill pickles and a jar of sweet gherkins found their way into my cart. It wasn’t until I was putting all three jars on the checkout counter that I realized the humor of the situation. If only I had grabbed a container of ice cream…. And had been barefoot…. I could have been the perfect pregnancy stereotype.
Unfortunately, this story has a very sad ending. In fact it’s just plain upsetting. I was on my last trip in with the final bags when I heard the unnerving sound of glass shattering on the floor. I look down to see my jar of sweet gherkins sprawled on the dirty linoleum floor of my apartment building hallway. It was a horrific sight. There was a hole in one of the bags and the jar slipped through. Why God, why? Why not choose the bag with the rice cakes or the bag with the bread? I will never know. As I sat in the stuffy hallway, wiping up what is arguably the best midnight snack ever, did I entertain the idea of driving back out to the store solely for the purpose of buying another jar? You better believe it. I didn’t though. But the night isn’t over yet.
I have a few new pictures to document Rhett’s latest growth (a.k.a my belly). He is definitely stretching out the space and lately it feels like he has been doing some remodeling in there. Knocking down a few walls, adding windows, etc.
Here is a shot of our sweet family. Please note Andy’s shirt. (Matching khaki hat not pictured).
This shot lets you see a little of the belly button action that has been happening.
I think I might have committed an unpardonable sin for a mother tonight but I couldn’t help it. I went to Ross to buy some bigger underwear because let’s face it, it needed to happen, and of course I went over to the baby section with the intention of only looking. Yeah right. Like going to the pickle aisle to only get bread and butter pickles was possible either. Well, as I was falling in love with everything in the section, I found the cutest pair of little sneakers. I am totally going through a baby shoe phase right now. They are little mock Chuck Taylor shoes and they were on super clearance. They are the green camo print and I just adore them. Now, I’m sure you are all thinking, this doesn’t sound bad at all.
Here’s the kicker.
I have green camo Chuck Taylors.
So I kinda bought them since we can match.
Start throwing your stones now.
I’m still not sure how Andy will feel about this but I just think it will be fun for Rhett and I to go out shopping with matching camo chucks. Oh, it just sounds bad. I’m that mother that is trying to wear matching outfits with her child. They are 3-6 months size so I’m not talking about taking him to school with our matching shoes. And the green camo is a very masculine style, so I’m not making him wear girly stuff. But he is matching his mother. Am I going to scar my child before he’s even able to eat solid foods? This is stressing me out. I need more pickles.
We are getting closer and closer to our due date and it is so exciting. I can’t believe July is almost over and I can’t believe I will be answering “8 months” soon when people ask me how far along I am. How crazy exciting is that?
