Is September Really That Close?

Here we are, about a week into July and I am really floored with how soon September is. In case you didn’t know, there is just August standing between me and my due date. It’s so hard to believe that we are now in a single digit countdown to the due date. We found out we were expecting at about 4 weeks pregnant so we have been counting the weeks for a while now and I just cannot wrap my mind around it being so close. I’m so excited and eager for him to get here and play with us. And Andy’s excitement is about 3x’s mine. It’s kinda like when you whip out a tennis ball in front of a golden retriever puppy. You’re excited to play catch but the puppy is “wet-the-floor” excited. Andy hasn’t had any accidents yet but we have a few weeks to go.

As I have shared before, I feel like everyone is drinking the Kool-Aid and getting pregnant. I love it. I was just talking with a friend who is going through some of the typical first trimester symptoms and all I could say was that it will get better, way better. In fact, things get so good that you completely forget about all the bad. If you asked me today how my pregnancy has been I would immediately tell you that it has been awesome. Now, has every minute been completely worth it? YES ABSOLUTELY! But, has it always been awesome? The honest answer is no. Like I told my mom this weekend, it’s like nature gives all pregnant women selective memory while they are expecting so we keep populating. Throwing up 3, sometimes 4, times a day was terrible and I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it to the second trimester with my sanity still intact. Once I got to my second trimester though, it was as if the first trimester had never even happened. Weird.

The childbirth class is another reminder for me of how close we are getting to September. Each class means we are one week closer. Well, duh Erica. Yes, but they go by so fast. I sit in class and think “I feel like I was just here” and then I remember that the next 9 weeks go by just as fast as the past few have. So, back to class. Because of his work, Andy won’t be joining me for the last 3 classes. Last night was my first time in class without him and I survived but I definitely wish he would have been there. I just miss having my friend with me. Dealing with awkward situations is always easier when you experience them with someone you can laugh with later. Am I right? I think I heard an amen.

We watched 4 births last night but that was not the most shocking thing of the evening. The true shocker was the discovery that one of the couples has more stickers than us. They were sitting in the row in front of me and I counted 12 stickers. We only have 9. Now, here’s the deal. There are two scenarios possible. EITHER they only practiced 3 times the first week and practiced 9 times the second week (which implies that they saw us take an early lead and they have come back with a new, incredibly aggressive game plan) OR they practiced more than we did the first week and just didn’t raise their hands (which implies a very calculated secrecy to lead other couples to believe they are not as competitive as clearly they are). Those are the only two logical options I can come up with. So bring it on. They have started a throw down whether they know it or not. And I think they do.
